My Big Red Laughter Box

You know that laugh that starts small, you can’t stop and you seem unable to control it? I love to laugh.  Like the ‘lol’ slang, I really like to laugh out loud, I seem to thoroughly enjoy the company of people who make me laugh and people who also love to laugh. Of course I enjoy the occasional serious political talk but laughter still does it for me. Anytime, any day. From memes, to jokes, movies, tweets, short videos on social media pages/timelines, comments on blog stories, the list is endless. If it is funny, then I’m laughing.

That colleague who gets the joke 10 seconds after everyone else has finished laughing and with tears in her eyes say, ‘I just got it now’, and everyone starts laughing all over again. Or Aunty T. with her deep sincere belly laugh, (there’s no faking it). Aunty O. who would gist you till she loses her voice and you can’t hear her anymore but you both keep laughing because its all so hilarious. My friend whose real name starts with G but I like to call Ebenezer, (for the hell of it) has called me a few times to play a prank and then laughs throughout the call and wonder how I guessed its him. My friend O.S.A. would laugh so much and scream, ‘Please tell me to stop, I think I peed myself!’.

Sometimes I laugh so much and I literally can’t breathe. There are stuffs I remember years later and I start laughing. I try to find a reason to laugh everyday. Some days I am sad, feeling down or ill and for 5 seconds I just laugh or smile (I do this only when I’m absolutely sure I’m alone, people will never understand)

You see, I have this thing I call my Laughter Box. Over the years I have come to store memories in it – a scene in a movie, something that happened to me personally, a joke I heard, an incident I witnessed, a song, a reaction to a song, anything that makes me laugh or smile.

I have this thing I like to call my Laughter Box. I store memories in it – Memories from childhood, my parents, siblings, boarding school, church, university, a movie, a wedding, a party, random stuff I see, in a store, a movie scene, something that happened to me personally, a joke I heard, an incident I witnessed, a song, a reaction to a song, anything that makes me laugh or smile.

I started this blog because there seems to be too many bad things going on and I believe the world needs more laughter. We all need a break and really – Everybody has a funny story to tell about their families, friends, neighbours, colleagues and crazy incidents that have happened to them.

To my beautiful friend O.S.A. thank you for the many laughs, my ‘delay’ colleague, Ebenezer, my aunties, may we never run out of things to laugh about.

Love to laugh?  Love to share a laugh? Have a funny story? I invite you to dip into my Laughter Box and top it up by sending us your funny stories.
